EyeClops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles V2 (Binoculars)
Many people consider the EyeClops Night Vision Infrared Stealth Goggles V2 as an advance over the original version. There are two issues behind this thinking.
The first is that they are cheaper than the original goggles, which always sounds good provided that they are are of a similar quality.
Well, the technology that underpins the original stealth goggles is exactly the same for this pair. They both use infrared technology to give you the ability to see in the dark. They even have similar operational specifications.
Both have the two mode setting. The stealth mode allows you to see in the dark without emitting any light or other things that might give you cover away. The long ranger surveillance mode allows you to see up to 50 feet away but does emit light – red LED light. So I would say that they are the same quality in terms of functionality.
They are also well constructed and sturdy. They use the same material as the original goggles. So what is the catch ?
Well they are not actually goggles as such. They are more like binoculars that you can wear round your neck (with supplied strap). You have to raise them to your eyes to use them and have to use one or both hands to hold them in place. This might put people off as you may want to use your hands for other things while still being able to see in the dark.
However, people that think version 2 is an improvement will point out that these goggles (or binoculars) give a better field of vision as they give vision to both eyes and the screen of vision is wider than the previous stealth goggles.
They will also say that the original Stealth goggles worked fine but that it was easy to get disorientated whilst wearing them because there was no depth perception and looking through one eye took a bit of getting used to. With this said, the binoculars don’t provide depth perception either but you can simply drop them down and re-establish your sense of the surroundings.
People that don’t mind the original Stealth goggles will say that you can flip up the eye pieces if you did feel disorientated and you would be able to see things as normal again. They may also say that the binoculars are not as tight fitting as the goggles, which could lead to light ‘leaking’ out when you used them. This might blow your cover on a dark night.
In the end, both work well and do what they say. The binoculars give you more flexibility and freedom. The goggles are more in the spirit of true night vision equipment in that you are free to use your hands for doing other things (however it does take time to get used to looking through them) and it is not really advised to run in them.
